Apparently unwilling to let John Paramor's officiating faux pas ruin a good rivalry, the fellas decided to do it again this week. Tiger proved true my post that he is from another planet again today by lambasting Hazeltine with a 5 birdie, O bogey exhibition. Padraig was barely outpaced, carding a 5 birdie, 1 bogey round. If there was any lingering question that Tiger and Padraig are, a) playing at their highest level, and b) need no outside meddling from impatient rules officials, then this surely settled the matter.
And to prove that long hitters have a distinct advantage this week, in spite of what crafty Sunshine Goydos had to say about it, dashing Spaniard Alvaro Quiros threw a thrill-seeking 69 on the board, with 6 birdies (6 birdies!) and 3 bogeys. With his ludicrous ball crushing abilities, I would expect him to be around on the weekend.
The big surprise of the day has to be the ageless range jockey, Vijay Singh. Out of his customary championship form of late, Vijay has picked the right week to come on strong. This is precisely the type of course that he can dominate, assuming that he is not coming over the top and pulling it dead left. If he can fix his tee ball, Vijay will be on the first page of the leaderboard come Sunday.
Sadly, John Daly (in all of his sartorial splendor) is struggling and looks to be free this weekend, just in case anyone is looking to buy some Daly merchandise from his RV in the Hazletine parking lot. He should be there, havin' a few smokes and putting the tap on the Diet Coke keg. It is a wonder that the man is still vertical, really, let alone able to make a living playing golf. There but for the grace of God go I.
And remember, if it isn't Gofl Blog, then it's just plain gofl.
